Head of Production - Roofing
Are you the roofing operations leader who knows how to turn a good production team into a great one?
We're looking for a proven roofing operator who can take the reins of a growing production organization, build a world-class operating system, and help scale a roofing business to its next level.
This isn't another job managing schedules, chasing crews, or putting out daily fires. It's an opportunity to step into a senior leadership role, take ownership of the entire production operation, develop the people who run it, and build the infrastructure that allows a company to grow without everything depending on the owner.
Think of it as being the COO of the production department.
The company has an established team, strong field experience, and room to grow. Now, it needs an operational leader who can bring the right combination of structure, urgency, accountability, and strategic thinking to the table.
If you've successfully led a sizable roofing operation, know how to manage managers, and get excited about building something that can scale, this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for.
THE OPPORTUNITY
You'll have significant ownership over how the production organization operates, performs, and grows.
Your mission? Build a production operation that is organized, predictable, profitable, and capable of supporting substantially higher volume without sacrificing workmanship, customer experience, or speed.
You'll have the opportunity to:
- Own the operation: Lead the production organization from sales handoff through installation, quality control, and final completion.
- Build a stronger leadership team: Develop production managers, field supervisors, and other leaders who take ownership of their teams and results.
- Create a scalable operation: Put the systems, processes, and accountability structures in place to support continued growth.
- Get ahead of problems: Improve forecasting, scheduling, crew capacity, and job readiness so the team is planning ahead instead of constantly reacting.
- Build field capacity: Strengthen relationships with roofing subcontractors, recruit additional crews, and ensure production capacity keeps pace with sales.
- Improve profitability: Reduce rework, delays, wasted resources, and operational inefficiencies while protecting quality and customer satisfaction.
- Make a measurable impact: Partner with senior leadership to improve performance, strengthen the organization, and help determine what the next stage of growth looks like.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN
1. Production Strategy & Execution
You'll take ownership of the full production operation and ensure jobs move efficiently from sold work to completed projects.
- Lead production managers, supervisors, and field leadership.
- Establish clear priorities, ownership, and performance expectations.
- Oversee project execution, installation, quality, and closeout.
- Identify bottlenecks and implement practical solutions.
- Build consistent workflows that improve execution without creating unnecessary red tape.
- Ensure the production organization can handle increasing volume without becoming chaotic.
Great production starts before a crew arrives at a jobsite.
- Build a reliable scheduling and forecasting process based on sold work, project readiness, crew capacity, and material availability.
- Anticipate scheduling conflicts and capacity constraints before they affect customers.
- Align production resources with sales volume and growth plans.
- Improve visibility into active jobs, upcoming installations, crew availability, and completion timelines.
- Establish a proactive planning rhythm that keeps the entire team aligned.
You understand that a roofing company's growth is only as strong as its ability to deliver in the field.
- Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing roofing crews and subcontractor partners.
- Establish clear expectations for workmanship, productivity, communication, and reliability.
- Monitor crew performance and address issues consistently.
- Ensure crews have the materials, information, and support needed to execute successfully.
- Build sufficient field capacity to support the company's growth trajectory.
- Partner with field leadership to maintain installation standards, safety, and jobsite performance.
You don't need more spreadsheets for the sake of having spreadsheets. You need systems that actually solve problems.
- Develop and implement practical SOPs and standardized production workflows.
- Improve processes for job preparation, scheduling, materials, installation, inspections, and closeout.
- Establish meaningful KPIs and reporting that drive action.
- Identify recurring issues and eliminate their root causes.
- Reduce preventable mistakes, rework, missed details, and unnecessary delays.
- Create systems that allow the organization to scale without constant owner intervention.
This is a leadership-of-leaders role. Your success will depend on building a team that can perform without you having to personally solve every problem.
- Lead, coach, and develop the existing production leadership team.
- Establish clear accountability at every level.
- Empower managers and supervisors to make decisions and solve problems independently.
- Set measurable expectations and follow through on results.
- Recruit and develop strong operational talent as the business grows.
- Build a culture of ownership, urgency, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Navigate different personalities and leadership styles while keeping everyone focused on results.
Production isn't just about getting roofs installed. It's about delivering what was sold, protecting margins, and creating a customer experience the company can stand behind.
- Improve the handoff from sales to production.
- Establish clear communication and ownership throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor quality, customer complaints, rework, scheduling performance, and project completion.
- Identify opportunities to improve job profitability, labor efficiency, and resource utilization.
- Use operational data to identify trends, address risks, and make better decisions.
- Provide senior leadership with clear visibility into production performance, capacity, and areas for improvement.
You're an experienced roofing operations executive who understands what it takes to run a production organization in the real world.
You've been responsible for more than individual projects. You've led teams, managed managers, dealt with crew capacity challenges, improved operational processes, and taken accountability for the overall performance of an operation.
You can walk a jobsite, understand what's happening in the field, and then step back to determine why the same problem keeps happening across multiple jobs.
You know when to get into the details and when to empower your team to handle them.
Most importantly, you understand that scaling a roofing company requires more than selling more jobs. It requires building an operation that can consistently deliver on what the business sells.
What We're Looking For
- Significant leadership experience in roofing production, roofing operations, or a closely related construction or field-service business.
- Experience overseeing a sizable production operation with multiple managers, supervisors, crews, or subcontractors.
- A track record of improving operational performance, consistency, and accountability.
- Strong understanding of roofing production, installation workflows, scheduling, materials, and field execution.
- Experience recruiting, developing, and managing roofing crews or subcontractor networks.
- Demonstrated ability to build SOPs, operational systems, KPIs, and management processes that improve performance.
- Strong forecasting, capacity-planning, and resource-management skills.
- Business and financial acumen, including an understanding of job costs, production expenses, labor efficiency, and profitability.
- The ability to lead through other people rather than becoming the bottleneck for every decision.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- A hands-on leadership style with the ability to operate effectively in both the office and the field.
Experience in a VP of Operations, Director of Operations, Head of Production, Director of Production, or similar senior leadership role is relevant.
THE LEADERSHIP STYLE THAT WILL WIN HERE
We aren't looking for someone who needs to control every detail. We're looking for someone who knows how to build an organization that runs well.
The right leader is:
- Structured, not bureaucratic. You create clarity without burying people in processes.
- Accountable, not a micromanager. You set expectations, measure results, and trust capable leaders to lead.
- Strategic, but field-aware. You can build a long-term plan without losing sight of what's happening on the ground.
- Data-driven, but practical. You use metrics to make better decisions, not to create reports nobody uses.
- Decisive and solutions-oriented. You identify problems, make decisions, and move the business forward.
- Focused on developing people. You build leaders who can operate independently rather than creating dependency on yourself.
You don't need to have all the answers on day one. You do need to know how to find them, build the right team, and create a plan that gets results.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
You'll know you're making an impact when:
- Production managers and supervisors own their responsibilities and deliver results.
- Scheduling and forecasting become reliable and proactive.
- Crew capacity supports sales growth without creating operational bottlenecks.
- Production issues are identified earlier and resolved more effectively.
- Quality improves while rework, delays, and preventable mistakes decrease.
- Sales-to-production handoffs become smoother and more consistent.
- Customers receive a better experience from the moment their project enters production.
- Leadership has a clear picture of operational performance, capacity, and profitability.
- The business can grow significantly without relying on the owner or a handful of key employees to keep everything moving.
Ultimately, your job is to build a production organization that performs consistently, develops its own leaders, and can handle the next stage of growth.
WHY THIS ROLE?
Because you have the opportunity to build something—not just manage what already exists.
For the right person, this is a chance to step into a highly visible executive leadership position and make a lasting impact on a growing roofing business.

If you've spent years learning what makes roofing operations successful and are ready to put that experience to work at a higher level, we'd like to hear from you.
